Cathedral of Saint Peter of Jaca →
Erected in the 11th century under King Sancho Ramírez, the Cathedral of Saint Peter of Jaca is the birthplace of mature Romanesque art in the Iberian Peninsula and a pivotal landmark along the Camino de Santiago. Its groundbreaking architecture set the foundations for high medieval art, spreading the iconic geometric checkered motif—known as the Jaca checkerwork—across European pilgrimage routes. Its western facade features a magnificent Trinitarian Chrismon, while its interior houses masterfully carved stone capitals. The cloister hosts the Diocesan Museum, home to one of the world's finest collections of medieval wall paintings.
