Dresden Frauenkirche →
Rising majestically over the Neumarkt square, the Dresden Frauenkirche is far more than a baroque masterpiece; it stands as an enduring global symbol of reconciliation and rebirth. Designed in the 18th century by master architect George Bähr, its colossal sandstone dome, affectionately nicknamed the 'Stone Bell,' defied the engineering limits of its era. Completely destroyed during the devastating Allied bombing raids of February 1945, the church lay in ruins for nearly five decades. Its meticulous archaeological reconstruction, completed in 2005, combined thousands of original charred stones with new sandstone, restoring Dresden's skyline and its grandest sacred jewel.
